Note: Hey everyone, this Update was intended to post on Valentine’s Day, but issues with the new website prevented that. Took us a day and then some to resolve. Since I wrote it the morning of Valentine’s Day the focus throughout is our love and affection for gaming and you. I thought about rewriting the whole thing, but my sentiments remain unchanged. Happy belated Valentine’s Day! Love is in the air. We love role-playing games. We love you, our fans. We love our new website. And we love how good the Rifts® Bestiary Volume One is turning out. Epic and coming along nicely. I also made a startling discovery Tuesday in a dusty corner of the Palladium warehouse, all of which culminates into a few, very limited, special offers: a few copies of Heroes Unlimited™ 30th Anniversary Edition as well as Palladium Fantasy RPG® 30th Anniversary Edition hardcover (sold out for years!). PLUS a Gold Edition Sale AND a new DriveThruRPG.com Sale! All described a bit further down this Update.

I hope you are enjoying our website overhaul. It is more intuitive, easy to use, mobile device friendly and gorgeous. A number of regulars who didn’t get or notice our mailing about it coming last week, were quite surprised and very pleased.

More about that exciting discovery. I was looking for something else entirely when I stumbled across a full box of the 30th Anniversary Heroes Unlimited™ Edition (recently sold out!) that contained two signed and numbered Anniversary Editions and a number of HU2 30th Anniversary Printer Proofs. Next to it was a partial box of the sold out and hotly desired Palladium Fantasy RPG® 30th Anniversary Edition hardcover. The Fantasy RPG hardcover has been sold out for a couple of years now. All of the Fantasy RPG and most of the Heroes Unlimited™ hardcover books are Printer Proofs, which are much more limited and rare than the signed and numbered edition (fewer than 50 copies were created. I think only 30, but none of us remember; there were 500 signed and numbered copies). We usually only sell a handful of “Printer Proofs.” The rest are given to special helpers, investors, friends, and charity auctions. Printer Proofs usually vanish almost immediately after release, so finding these books was a thrill for me. I thought they were gone years ago. These are the last of them. I’m making a handful available this weekend, and keeping a couple to sell at Gen Con and a couple for the 2021 Open House. Get ‘em while you can.

RARE FIND – Limited availability – Out of Print Palladium Fantasy RPG^® 30th Anniversary Edition Hardcover – Printer Proof

• Palladium Fantasy RPG® 30th Anniversary Hardcover – $80 each. 7 signatures plus a large, original Dragon head drawing by Kevin Siembieda on page one, each drawing is different. SOLD OUT for 2 years until some Printer Proofs were recently unearthed. Cat. No. 4500HC-Proof. There were approximately 50 Printer Proofs for the PFRPG 30th Anniversary Hardcover, of which these are among the last few recently discovered. I have added a Dragon head sketch on the first page. Available on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last.

What is a Printer Proof? When there is a signed and numbered limited edition book or art print, there is the signed and numbered item and then there may be Printer Proofs. These are either a few dozen extras from a print overrun or a small run sent by the printer as early samples of the finished book. I have found most publishers seem to offer 20-100 Printer Proofs in addition to the official signed and numbered books, but that number may vary up or down. The book is marked as a Printer Proof or P/P and is otherwise identical to the signed and numbered edition. Sometimes the Proof edition includes an additional sketch or extra signature(s), but most do not. Printer Proofs have been a common practice among publishers of limited, signed and numbered books and prints for decades. Most collectors believe Printer Proofs are more valuable because there are so very few of them.

Savage Rifts^® Voice of Hope Podcast – Episode 19 – includes a 4 person conversation with Kevin Siembieda, Sean Patrick Fannon, Cameron Cleveland and host, Sean Masters

Last week, I recorded a very fun podcast for Savage Rifts® Voice of Hope with Sean Masters (the host), Cameron Cleveland (G.M. and mastermind behind the Rifts® Living Campaign Club), and Sean Patrick Fannon (writer and game designer, Rifts® Savage Worlds and others), that is part role-play experience followed by an hour or so long interview between the four of us. We all had a blast doing this podcast and I highly recommend taking a listen to Episode 19. (The 4 of us each have a role. I played Lord Coake.) Or at least listen to the interview, which will be time stamped and easy to find.

UPDATE: More Negatives and Original Art

Alex and I continue to add more negatives and collectibles to my ebay store. They include pages of negs from the original Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms™, Mindwerks™ and Cyber-Knights™ sourcebook. And we will continue to add more negatives (many on sale) as well as original art to my ebay store. Folks are really starting to get into the one-of-a-kind negatives of old books, which doesn’t surprise me because I think they are truly unique and look great. I’m making sure most pages get made available to fans and I have only been keeping pages one thru contents and the occasional favorite page of art. So please enjoy.

UPDATE: Rifts^® Bestiary, Volume One

Could the monsters known as Caterpillar Things be the larval form of the Mothman appearing in Bestiary, Volume Two? Are Darkhounds really magically mutated Dog Boys? Is that why they see Coalition soldiers as friends and allies? Ee-Bee Gee-Bees are kinda cute, so how dangerous can they be? What on Rifts Earth is a Field Reaper or a Glitcher? You’ll be finding out soon.

I have been on fire and picking up speed on the writing for Rifts® Bestiary, Volume One. I think Chuck has finished all of his art tweaks and I’m having a blast with the updating and detailing of the monsters you think you know, as well as the new ones. It has been a joy revisiting these creatures and making them come to life for you in new ways I know you will enjoy. Working hard to wrap this puppy up and get it into your hands as quickly as I can.

The two upcoming Rifts® Bestiary™ books will be great resources for players and G.M.s alike, with creatures that can be used as familiars, pets, riding animals, guard animals, and in some cases, even unlikely allies. Others are slobbering monsters or malicious predators who include humans and D-Bees among their prey. All will give you plenty of spice to add to your characters and adventures. And each has a map that shows at a glance exactly where to find these beasts.

UPDATE: In the Face of Death^™, a sourcebook for Dead Reign^®

When the ideas come, sometimes you need to drop everything to write them down before they are gone. That happened to me with In the Face of Death™ just last weekend. I had reviewed the fabulous artwork by Nick Bradshaw and I was making notes for what additional art images I wanted (mostly rooftop images, characters and street scenes). I was writing a description for an illustration and the next thing I knew, the opening description of the book was pouring out of me and I couldn’t stop. Wow.

I often say that when I’m hot writing, I feel less like I’m selecting the words and creating the book and more like I’m receiving a transmission from aliens and it’s all I can do to write it all down as fast as I can before the transmission stops. I’ve had a lot of those moments writing Rifts® Bestiary™, Volume One and now one for the next Dead Reign® sourcebook. I cannot wait till I finish the Rifts® Bestiary™ so I can dive into this book, CE: Psychic Scream™, and several Beyond the Supernatural™ titles. They’re all screaming to be released. Damn alien transmissions! Ah, who am I kidding? I love it when that happens. And you’ll love the end results.

UPDATE: Garden of the Gods^™

I am also hot to finish this title. I try not to think about it much because the ideas start to boil and demand being written and I have other books to finish first. So many exciting titles in the pipeline waiting to be finished. Assigning art and making notes as new ideas insist I write them down.

UPDATE: Rifts^® Antarctica^™

Met with contributing writer Carmen Bellaire just this morning. He reports he has made his first pass over the Matthew Clements manuscript and made his tweaks and changes to that material, most of which he loved. Next Carmen will be writing the additions he and I want after we brain-stormed ideas about a month ago. The Rifts® Antarctica™ book is going to be a fascinating and scary World Book. It’s nice to have both Matthew and Carmen writing books again for Palladium as I love working with those two.

So many books I am looking forward to finishing and Chaos Earth® Psychic Scream™ is one of them. You are going to love it.

Hey everyone, another early Weekly Update. We shoot for a Thursday or Friday release for the Update, but sometimes Wednesday is better or necessary depending on what’s happening at Palladium. This week it is necessary because we expect to go live with the new Palladium website in a day or two and we don’t want you to be totally surprised or confused when you see it. This is one of the projects we have had in development behind the scenes for a long while now, and we are very excited about it. It looks beautiful and will be compatible with your mobile devices, as well as being simpler and easier to use. I absolutely love it. Chuck, Wayne, Alex, all of us went gonzo over it, and we think you will too. I am hot to finish this title. So many exciting books waiting to be finished. More and more I think we will release it as a Raw Preview Edition. Assigning art and making notes as new ideas hit me. Already have a few artists lined up.

UPDATE: Rifts^® Antarctica^™

Freelance writer Carmen Bellaire continues to fine tune and add some material that he and I brain-stormed and want to see included in this fascinating and scary World Book. The Rifts® Antarctica™ book is going to be fantastic. The finished John Zeleznik cover painting should arrive by the end of January. I will be assigning the interior art soon and may put this bad boy on the fast-track to publication. It’s nice to have both Matthew and Carmen writing books again for Palladium as I love working with those two.
